The opportunity to do something that has not been done before can be thrilling and rewarding, especially when you have a chance to be encouraged in the process. A movement began when a team of women from across functional groups began planning what would be the new standard in the 10 year history for the Coca-Cola Women’s LINC Conference.
The theme of the conference, “Make Your Move, Dare Boldly” was more than a statement. It became a call to action that by the end of the conference over 1,000 women employed by Coca-Cola felt empowered to Dare Boldly. Do not sit on the sidelines holding on to your potential. Time is now to Make Your Move.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Condoleezzaa Rice. I was fortunate to not only be a vendor, but also an attendee of the conference. Hince my earlier reference to being encouraged in the process.
” The essence of America – that which really unites us – is not ethnicity, or nationality or religion – it is an idea – and what and idea it is: That you can come from humble circumstances and do great things. That is doesn’t matter where you came from but where you are going”. – Dr. Condoleezza Rice
Dr Rice as you might imagine is an inspirational speaker in light of her wealth of experience and wisdom gained on this journey called life. Out of all she has accomplished including her role at Secretary of State of the United States, she wholeheartedly believes she is where she was meant to be. Everything she has done up to this point has prepared her for her most coveted position – professor at Stanford Graduate School of Business. Her passion to educate and inspire was evident. I learned a lot during her talk. As she shared more about her journey, she was open about believing her successful (and failed) moments in life were driven by whether she was following her passion. Just because a door opens it does not mean it is the one you should walk through. We were told to throwout the roadmap. What!? This was not easy to process, especially for a planner. Her point resonated with me. Know that life is going to take unexpected turn. Your focus should always be to do something you are passionate about and then work at it.
Ironically, I was being BOLD and doing something I had not done before on this scale. Designing and executing a 12ft dessert table for a corporate client. One of the goals I set for the business this year was to branch out and obtain corporate clients. I did it and this one was a big one (for me anyway). Timing was tight as there was a short window between a break and the closing session for us to set-up. We were set-up just outside the conference doors. This mean’t we were on as soon as those doors opened, which opened 20 minutes ahead of schedule! The desserts went quickly as we could barely refill fast enough. Following the accolades and the speed at which desserts were enjoyed, A Sweet Touch had another successful event featuring our custom designed dessert tables.
All photos were captured via mobile and in less than a minute. So glad we were able to capture a few pictures to share.
Coca Cola is a strong brand so it was imperative that we merged the conference theme and colors with the national branding. In addition to the red and white, teal was one of the colors used for the conference, which we loved. We incorporated this color into our modern design to add more visual interest to our display. Brand messaging was carried throughout the desserts. Effervescence bubbles were depicted through the decorated cookies, flower arrangement accents, vanilla cream petit fours, and cupcake toppers. The coke bottle was incorporated into the handmade raspberry lollipops, conference logo cupcake toppers, and cookies. One of my favorite and fun elements of the display were the hanging cookies. Large cookie were suspended from picture frames clearly stating the key messages from the conference: DARE, BOLD, MOVE. Other desserts included were red velvet cake pops, white chocolate Oreo bites, mini- cupcakes and fruit skewers.
Be Bold. Make Your Move. Whatever you can do or dream you can do – begin it. Boldness has power and magic in it! Dare Boldly.
